Rule 42
Honorary promotion
(1) The Commander-in-Chief may submit to the Government of Nepal for honorary promotion, with the recommendation of the promotion committee, military personnel from sub-senior to sub-rathi rank who have done commendable work in the Nepali Army but retired without the opportunity of promotion.
(2) After receiving the recommendation according to sub-rule (1), the Government of Nepal may grant honorary promotion. However, according to this sub-rule, the military personnel who are promoted will not get any other benefits except the right to use the flag.
(3) Chief Suvedar and Suvedar or equivalent Nepali Army posts of twenty-five years or more, and less than one year of service remaining, may be conferred honorary lieutenant rank by the Commander-in-Chief on the recommendation of the Promotion Committee. However, in case of retiring before twenty-five years due to the term of office, there will be no hindrance to promote up to five people in one financial year as honorary sub-commissioned officers.
(4) A military person who is promoted in accordance with sub-rule (3) shall be entitled to use the insignia and all the privileges of that post.
